Peak Performance Project, Day 4: “Can’t Stay Awake”
7:30 am, Dude-Brah Lodge I wake up after sleeping for one hour, or as Steve Lockhart and I are now calling, “Cyat Nyaps.” I’m really not hungry, but I eat 3 pieces of french toast and a container of yogurt at breakfast, after staring blankly at the cereal collection at the breakfast service for at least 3 minutes and being shocked awake again by one of the camp volunteers asking me if I’m okay. I reply “totally okay” and laugh way too loud and she looks concerned. I order an espresso and play guitar for 15 minutes before attending an awesome keynote featuring Wide Mouth Mason’s Shaun “the road warrior” Verreault, and booking agent Rob “11 pounds at birth” Wright. They are both great speakers and I am thankful because >> read more

Peak Performance Project, Day 3: “Vancouver 125”
7:30 am, Similkameen Lodge (aka DUDE-BRAH LODGE) I wake up after sleeping for 2 hours. I take a 15 minute shower and stare blankly at the water going down the drain. It is great, and when you think about it, like really think, our cabin must really look and smell amazing by now. Like, really, it does. I wander into the mess hall in a haze and finally order an espresso for the first time while being here. It is delicious, and following a series of moans and >> read more

Peak Performance Project, Day 2: “The Interview”
7:30 am, Similkameen Lodge, RockRidge Canyon I wake up to the loudest air-horn I’ve ever heard and having no idea where I am, and for a second I panic. Mike Edel then jumps out of the bed across from me and softly says to himself, “Breakfast.” I can tell he’s excited and then I realize where I am and say quietly to myself, “Breakfast.” I dress quickly, brush my teeth, put on a dirty band shirt and follow Mike to the mess hall. breakfast is good and I eat fresh fruit for the first time in what seems like ages. I also eat a bowl of oatmeal with cranberries and 2 slices of bacon. I grab a cup of coffee with the boys and head downstairs to the first keynote >> read more

Peak Performance Project, Day 1: “Bootcamp”
Here we are again, friends. The same place at the same time we were last year, into the wild (with the internet) to build our community of musicians and music industry professionals. This year, there are quite a few familiar faces we saw at last years’ camp, including our talented friends who share our triumphant title of “Second Round Artists,” @41st and Home and @Behind Sapphire, as well as new participants, friends we’ve either played shows with amidst our travels in the past or people we have had the pleasure of having them lavish us with their knowledge on a previous occasion. So far, the return has been wonderful. We’ve been welcomed warmly by everyone again, inluding the weather, we’ve been well-fed and now the process has already begun. We >> read more
